Marketing literature

As part of my role with the National Emergency Services Museum I produced engaging, informative text for various types of marketing literature promoting major museum events, including leaflets, posters, banners, and print and online adverts. The aim was to create bitesize copy that would capture the spirit and flavour of the event, generating interest and encouraging visitors and potential visitors to find out more via the museum's website and social media.

Event management

After introducing and delivering an extremely successful and well-received Christmas staff quiz as part of my role at the Sheffield Business School at Sheffield Hallam University, I was commissioned to deliver the event for the faculty on a freelance basis from 2015. I took on researching, writing and preparing all questions, including picture and audio rounds; providing all quiz resources including prizes; and presenting the quiz to 100  staff members on the night. The event was always fully subscribed and was a hugely popular fixture in the staff calendar, and feedback was hugely positive. As a result of the success of this event, I was further commissioned to deliver similar events for students within the faculty.

Employee engagement

At Sheffield Hallam University I led on communications and engagement for a staff development plan across estates and facilities management, called Good to GREAT. The project was a 'hearts and minds' exercise which aimed to engage all the department's staff in a new improvement strategy and to give the large, diverse team a sense of ownership in the changes.  I developed and managed a full communications plan incorporating staff events, an intranet site, email updates, verbal briefing notes, banners and posters, and supporting literature, ensuring staff without regular access to digital and online channels (such as porters and cleaners) were fully included. The response to the campaign was overwhelmingly positive and received excellent engagement from all staff.

Report writing

Whilst working with the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at Sheffield Hallam University I was asked to support the delivery of the faculty's first annual report. I worked closely with the Pro-Vice Chancellor to agree an approach and content plan; liaised with senior management and others to gather all content including financial figures; wrote all required copy; liaised with marketing colleagues to source images and agree a design; and worked with the senior management team to reach final agreement and sign-off for the document. It was then distributed to hundreds of staff and significant stakeholders.

Speech writing

In my first role at Sheffield Hallam University I was asked by my line manager to take on the job of writing all Honorary Doctorate citations for that year's graduation ceremonies. I was given the responsibility of interviewing all those receiving honours, including Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes, ensuring I asked appropriate questions, brought out interesting snippets of information, and captured elements of the recipient's character and personality. The final speeches honouring all eight of that year's recipients were then delivered by senior University figures to around 2,200 guests at each ceremony. The feedback from staff and the recipients themselves was very positive.
