Hi, I'm Helen Shepherd.
I'm the managing director of Elevate Communications Limited. I'm also the chief copywriter. And the secretary. And the IT support. And the finance officer. And I make a decent cup of tea too. Yes, I'm a proud one-woman band and I love it!

I have loved writing for as long as I can remember and am definitely, absolutely and without question going to write my novel one day. I'm a sports nut and a lifelong and long-suffering Sheffield Wednesday fan. I play football, as well as my knees will let me, with a lovely bunch of like-minded women who are also old enough to know better. I am mum to a very spoiled cat and auntie to an actual small human, so if we meet in person expect me to be covered in fur or chocolate. Or both. I am a self-confessed history nerd and can often be found poking around a country house, heritage site or a museum, or enjoying a long walk in the magnificent Peak District. At least, I can when I'm not under a blanket with a cat watching the footy.
About Elevate Communications Limited
I founded Elevate Communications in 2014 while I was still in permanent employment and plunged into the world of full-time freelancing in 2024. I've been working in media and communications for 25 years across a variety of roles (you can see my full CV via the link below, if you're into that sort of thing), so whatever challenges my clients need to tackle you can almost guarantee I've already come across it, dealt with it and possibly had a little cry about it.
I love telling stories, whether that’s through a single blog, magazine article or news release, an ongoing campaign or interpretation for a full museum exhibition. I love delving into mounds of material to understand the story that needs telling and crafting engaging narratives that have the power to educate, inspire and move an audience. And I love working with clients to discover, shape and celebrate the amazing stories they have to tell. I'm based in Sheffield, UK, and have a particular interest and focus on the heritage, culture and museum sectors but, much like Superman, I am ready to go wherever I'm needed.
